Op-Eds

Gary Franks: Socialists/Democrats - Is there a difference?

We are Americans. We are hardworking people. We fight in defense of our values. We love our freedoms. We do not have to be told what to think - what cars to buy, what jobs to seek, what leaders to choose.

We want our leaders to be the best and the brightest and independent enough to challenge their own party when necessary, without undue repercussion.

We want a media that does not merely regurgitate what the Democrats want them to say 24/7 without doing any pros and cons analysis, while challenging both parties fairly.

We recognize that no man is above the law and all men are created equal. But we are smart enough to understand that some people “take up a lot of the oxygen in the room.” They can be a major distraction for the country. A country and media that takes their eye off the ball, especially during these perilous times, does so at their own risk.

Socialism is great for those in power. For those brave enough to oppose socialist regimes in China or Russia, those in power see them as a major threat to be neutralized.

For socialists, a huge federal government with people dependent on the government and a government making all major decisions is ideal. It is the way of China’s Communist Party (CCP) and the Soviet Union before its collapse, and now Russia.

Today’s Democrats resemble socialists in so many ways. They seek to have too much control over Americans with a goal of having one-party rule/control, much like China and Russia.

Democrat leaders with the use of the liberal media want to convince you how to think. They show disdain toward anyone who challenges their beliefs, while promoting those who agree with them.

For example, how can you combat climate change if the vast majority of the world is not truly participating in efforts to reduce carbon emissions?

The recent Glasgow Summit was declared a failure by most experts. The biggest countries in the world, along with major industrialized countries, gave token participation in the summit. This lackluster enthusiasm for the cause was not conveyed properly in the media.

So why spend hundreds of billions of dollars trying to lead an effort that most people in the world do not see as being dire enough to do more?

Democrats strongly suggest what kind of car we should be driving -  an electric vehicle per their Climate, Health and Tax bill.

Democrats strongly suggest what jobs we should be seeking as billions of dollars are directed to the fight against climate change per the Climate, Health and Tax Bill, and 87,000 new IRS agent positions are created.

Democrats strongly suggest what line of work you should not seek - fossil fuel industry jobs - as those jobs are likely not to have bright futures under Democratic administrations.

Democrats want the government to subsidize industries that will fight climate change. China and Russia also subsidize preferred industries. In America we call it “corporate welfare.”

Democrats want to provide more services, especially health-related ones, just like in socialist countries. Government takeover of healthcare has always been an aspiration of the (Senator) Bernie Sanders wing of the Democrat Party as Sanders is a Socialist.

Democrats even want to tell Republicans which leaders they should choose. Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi refused to appoint Republican minority leaders’ choices for the January 6th committee because their views did not match Pelosi’s. It was an unprecedented act, as it is not the role of Democrats to pick Republican members of a committee.

Democrats have spent millions of dollars in primary races to select the Republican candidates they would most prefer to run against. This warped tactic is straight from Russian President Vladimir Putin’s book of politics.

Democrats seem accepting of non-Americans “getting into the movie theater” through unlocked doors and then they provide popcorn, candy, and soda all at the expense of hard-working Americans. It is a classic socialist “take-from-one-class” and “give to the other” - in this case that other class is those who broke the law by entering the United States illegally.

Perspective on the week's biggest stories from the Courant's Opinion page

Democrats want to expand the U.S. Supreme Court so they can do whatever they want while hopefully respecting the Constitution. Their ideal scenario would be to have long lasting control of the court.

Democrats would like to eliminate the Senate filibuster so they can control all legislation without the participation of the opposing Republican Party.

It would not be unusual for China and Russia to raid the homes of their adversaries or to take the electronic devices of elected officials for investigation. It is strange to see that in America, however.

The Democrats would want you to believe that a few hundred bad people could overturn our federal government. To nobody’s surprise, it was proven that it was not possible.

Lastly, Chinese and Russian leaders are “always right,” and the Democrats want you to believe the same of them.

However, America is the world’s greatest democracy. We can thwart the attempted abdication of our freedoms with our vote on election day and that day cannot come fast enough.
