Enfield Library hosting scavenger hunt, tie-dye event, storytimes

Enfield — ENFIELD – The Enfield Public Library, 104 Middle Road, is hosting the following events. Call 860-763-7518 or visit for more information.

The “Get Off the Beaten Path Scavenger Hunt” is a family event that will allow you to get out of the house and explore the outdoors. Grab your list of GPS coordinates on the Enfield Public Library’s website or at the library.


At each coordinate you will find a sign with a QR Code. When scanned, the QR code will bring you to a check-in page for that location. Two winners will be selected from correct entries. One entry per family or group. The scavenger hunt begins on Aug. 1 and ends Aug. 15. There is no need to return anything to the library.

The library will host “Storytimes in the Park” at different parks in town throughout the summer. The next storytime will be held at Hazardville Park on the corner of Hazard Avenue and School Street. Join Miss Kim for stories and songs on Monday, Aug. 1, at 2 p.m. Bring a blanket.


Author Fred Sokol will share his latest novel, “Silverbirch Summer,” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3. The book reflects upon main character April’s girlhood and youth while primarily exploring her coming of age during July and August of 1965.

Tie Dye at the library will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. Bring a T-shirt or other item. Free tickets are available at for children ages four and up.

PJ Storytime will take place on Thursday, Aug. 4, at 6:30 p.m. PJs are proper attire. Bring along mom and dad and your favorite stuffed animal – they’d like to hear a story, make a craft and dance, too. The recommended age for this storytime is 3 to 7.

Somers Department of Veterans Affairs presents Veterans Coffeehouse

SOMERS – A free veterans’ coffeehouse will take place from 8:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, July 30, in the Somers Town Hall Auditorium, 600 Main St.

The event will feature beverages, Dunkin’ Donuts, guest speakers, military benefits updates and camaraderie. July’s guest speakers are Tom and Vicki Clark, owners of the Select Homes division of Connecticut Commercial Realty (CCR).

Tom served on active duty in the Army as a medic. The couple are licensed brokers in Connecticut and Massachusetts and owners of the Select Homes division of Connecticut Commercial Realty, which specializes in the buying, selling, and leasing of residential property, including buyer representation.

They will share info on selling in the current market conditions, selling versus refinancing, buying a new property, how to begin the process and options to utilize the VA home loan benefit and reverse mortgage options and ways to utilize your property.
