Five people were in custody Thursday evening after Hartford police heard shots fired and followed a vehicle that fled along Interstate 84 until it finally stopped in Manchester, police said.
Detectives, who were in an unmarked police vehicle, were in the Broad Street area just before 6 p.m. when they heard shots fired and saw that the shots were being fired from a white Honda Passport that was reported stolen out of Meriden, police said.
The detectives followed the Passport and saw it enter Interstate 84 west, police said. Other arriving units attempted to stop the Passport, but the operator continued on the highway into Farmington, then exited and re-entered to head east, police said.
The pursuit continued into Manchester, where the Passport was stopped and the five people were taken into custody after a foot pursuit, police said. The five people were not identified.
No injuries occurred as a result of the pursuit, but, during it, a female gunshot victim arrived at an area hospital for treatment, police said. Her injury is believed to be non-life-threatening at this time, police said.
Police said a search warrant is being drafted for the Passport in an “attempt to locate the firearm used.”
